I am currently chief scientist at Thomson Reuters with responsibility for corporate research and development. Thomson Reuters is the world's leading source of intelligent information for business and professionals.
R&D is a group of 40 research scientists and software engineers that delivers enabling technologies to our global publishing and solutions businesses. Key areas of expertize include information retrieval, document categorization, machine learning, and text data mining.
Our technology has powered many new products in recent years, such as the ResultsPlus recommendation system on Westlaw and the Medical Litigator search tool, which provides attorneys with links to up to date medical information.
Personal Information
I was born in Barbados and went to school in England. I have also lived in Scotland (Edinburgh) and the United States (Saint Louis, MO and Rochester, NY). Now I live in Saint Paul, MN.
I am proud to be serving my fifth year on the Board of Directors for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.
I am also on the board of World Voices, a local choral ensemble that performs music from diverse cultures.

I gave a talk at the Elite User Conference in San Diego in June.
I appeared on a panel on 'Innovation for Information Companies' at SIIA NetGain in San Francisco.
I have reviewed papers for ESAIR-2009 and ICAIL-2009.
In December, I started a blog on information technology and the Internet.
In November, I attended the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco.
In September, I gave a keynote at the European Semantic Technologies Conference in Vienna.
